About the Show
Blood of Gods brings together four artists whose work moves through anatomy, ritual, anxiety, mortality, authority, and dark humor. Working across layered collage, illustration, print, mixed media, and painting, Alex Eckman-Lawn, Morgan Sorensen / See Machine, Heather Mahler, and Nicholas Hartman / Chapel of Ghouls create strange visual worlds filled with fractured bodies, ancient symbols, restless spirits, monsters, and ghouls.
Though each artist has a distinct practice, their work shares an attraction to the uncanny and the beautifully unsettling. The body becomes architecture, monsters serve as emotional stand-ins, and horror becomes a way to confront fear, isolation, transformation, and the more difficult parts of being human.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Blood of Gods, a wine magazine with a heavy metal soul founded by Stacy Buchanan. The magazine brings together artists, musicians, winemakers, and writers while challenging the idea that wine must be formal, exclusive, or taken too seriously.
Blood of Gods is on view at Foundry Vineyards from July 17 through August 2, 2026.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alex Eckman-Lawn, Morgan Sorensen / See Machine, Heather Mahler, and Nicholas Hartman / Chapel of Ghouls
ALEX ECKMAN-LAWN
Alex Eckman-Lawn is a Philadelphia-born artist and illustrator known for intricate, hand-cut paper collages. Combining his own digital paintings with imagery drawn from vintage medical texts, he constructs layered scenes that appear anatomical, architectural, and otherworldly. Eckman-Lawn received a BFA in Illustration from the University of the Arts, and his work has appeared in comics, album and book covers, music videos, apparel, movie posters, and concert posters.
MORGAN SORENSEN / SEE MACHINE
Morgan Sorensen, working under the name See Machine, is a Boise-based illustrator and graphic designer. Beginning with pencil drawings and developing them into refined digital works, Sorensen creates stark, highly detailed images shaped by ancient symbolism, industrial forms, and graphic design. His work frequently considers struggle, sadness, pain, death, and other aspects of the human condition, often balancing an ominous atmosphere with subtle dark humor.
HEATHER MAHLER
Heather Mahler is an illustrator and character designer whose work combines spooky imagery with bold personalities, humor, and a strong sense of style. Drawing from screenprinting, animation, horror, and the expressive visual language of 1990s anime, she creates witches, vampires, spirits, and other strange figures that feel playful, powerful, and slightly dangerous. Mahler received a BFA with an emphasis in screenprinting from Utah State University and has worked with animation studios including Titmouse and Nickelodeon.
NICHOLAS HARTMAN / CHAPEL OF GHOULS
Nicholas Hartman is a Michigan-based painter, illustrator, filmmaker, and writer working under the name Chapel of Ghouls. His expressive creatures began as a way to give visible form to anxiety, depression, panic, and fears surrounding mortality. Through acrylic painting and other media, Hartman transforms difficult emotions into strange, vulnerable, and often unexpectedly endearing ghouls. What began as a personal outlet has grown into a larger creative community centered on honesty, mental health, and an appreciation for the macabre.
