ART TAKES

MANY FORMS

Foundry Vineyards is dedicated to the creation of finely-crafted low intervention wines that express the unique terroir of their vineyard. Each hand crafted wine is overseen from the wine to bottle and the grapes are rigorously selected from the best lots. Our award-winning wines produced are created with a combination of estate grown fruit from the Walla Walla Valley and thoughtfully sourced small-lot production from premier growing areas around Washington State.

Foundry's commitment to limited production size, around 2,500 cases annually, ensures that each wine matures to their full potential and showcases the philosophy of quality over quantity. With deep roots in contemporary art, Foundry Vineyards hopes to reflect the spirit of artistic expression in each wine and continues to be creative with each vintage.

Winemaker Jay Anderson highlights the creativity of winemaking using a variety of methods to make wines in a range of styles - perfect for any and every occasion. His approach is one of low intervention, focusing on vineyard management and minimal inputs. He works diligently in the estate, Stonemarker, to cultivate rich, well-balanced, organic fruit- the foundation for select single-varietal wines and the flagship Artisan Blend. Jay actively searches for new vineyards to add to Foundry's portfolio that highlight sustainable vineyard practices. From Foundry Vineyards' single varietal series to his natural sparkling line, pétproject, each of Jay's wines are a true testament of fruit and site.

NATURAL +
ORGANIC

Completing the 3 year certification process, Foundry Vineyards received USDA organic certification in 2020. By focusing on growing and sourcing grapes that are farmed without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides, we can practice minimal intervention winemaking in the cellar.

Our estate vineyard, Stonemarker, all partner vineyards, and our production facility are USDA certified.

Each vineyard we work with has its own unique biodiversity. We honor that in two ways - creating site-specific wines from a single vineyard and using wild yeasts present in the vineyard.

Our wines speak to an elevated "sense of place" made possible only by the distinctive yeast strains living in each vineyard. Each vineyards' particular set of conditions adds different aromas and compounds, and a beautiful complexity that cannot be replicated by lab-based yeast.

SITE
SPECIFIC

In 2003, to celebrate the art and artists of the Walla Walla Foundry, owner Mark Anderson created our inaugural wine, the 2003 Artisan Blend, a Bordeaux-style blend featuring label artwork from world-renowned artist Jim Dine.

Every year we have featured an artist's label paired with our flagship blend to pay homage to the creative processes of both art and wine, and our roots in contemporary art.

Walla Walla Valley AVA

STONEMARKER
ESTATE VINEYARD

Stonemarker is situated along Caldwell Creek, in the southeastern part of Walla Walla Valley AVA. The 3.5 acres under vine are primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The vineyard sits at just under 1000 feet elevation, and features soils made up of classic Walla Walla silty loam. Since the vines are planted along a south facing slope, they receive ideal sun exposure for optimal ripeness and depth of flavor.

Originally planted in 1998, the Stonemarker estate vineyard is sustainably managed and one of just two certified organic vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley AVA. When the transition to organic viticulture began in 2017, we incorporated regenerative practices to improve soil health and ecology, as well as completely eliminated the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides. The vineyard received its USDA Organic Certification in 2020, and at the time, was the only Certified Organic Vineyard in the AVA.

PÉT PROJECT

Pét Project is Foundry Vineyards' sister label, focused on creating low-intervention wines using the ancestral method, the oldest process for creating sparkling wines. The French refer to these wines as pétillant-naturel (naturally sparkling) or pét-nat for short.

These wines capture the liveliness of fermentation just before it is completed. The remaining Co2 in bottle results in a youthful sparkling wine. All Pét Project wines are certified organic and made in the zero/zero style - meaning nothing is added or taken away during the winemaking process.
