Company Description

Foundry Vineyards (est. 2003) and Pét Project Wines are dedicated to the creation of finely-crafted low intervention, 100% organic wines that express the unique terroir of their vineyard. The award-winning wines are created with a combination of estate-grown fruit from the Walla Walla Valley and thoughtfully sourced fruit from throughout Washington State. Pét Project, Foundry Vineyard’s sister label, specializes in organic, naturally sparkling, zero/zero wines.

Job Description

Foundry Vineyards is looking to hire an enthusiastic, friendly, engaging individual who has a passion for wine and working with the public. Our winery is built on the concept of art + wine, so candidates must be comfortable with speaking to customers about the current art gallery exhibit as well as the wines and their characteristics. Teamwork, a sense of humor, and a strong work ethic are also vital for success. In addition to winery tasting events and dinners, our gallery space is available for rent and the candidate must be available to pour wine at these events when needed.

In addition to working Friday-Sunday in the Tasting Room, the position will allow for two additional days to work with one of our owners on unique projects relating to the gallery and general operations. In 2023 Foundry Vineyards will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary, and to commemorate this we are planning several community events, wine club experiences, and gallery exhibitions. To assist with the planning and execution, we are seeking an organized individual to help us carry out this vision. The first project will focus on facilitating a community-wide juried art exhibition slated for February.

What you’ll do:
  • Tasting Room Associate (Friday-Sunday)  - 60%

    • Warmly and enthusiastically greet and serve customers, ensuring everyone walks away with a memorable experience and an understanding of the Foundry Vineyards' story. We believe that wine tasting shouldn’t be intimidating, so creating a welcoming atmosphere is vital. We are also committed to growing our club member community, so building long-term customer relationships is key!

    • Maintain product knowledge of our wines, including current releases and library wines. Be prepared to have a point of view, as our customers often want guidance and recommendations.

    • Complete daily operations including but not limited to opening and closing duties, cleaning, restocking, data entry, and inventory as needed. Clean, sanitize, and polish all glass and dish wares.

    • Schedule and manage tasting reservations, and maintain the appointment calendar.

    • Fulfill and pack shipping orders as needed.

    • Work some evening events under the direction of our Events Coordinator.

    • Assist with other annual or semi-annual all-staff events such as bottling, labeling, and packing wine club orders.

  • Executive Assistant  - 40%

    • For about 12 hours per week, you will be under the direction of an owner to help with correspondence and executing tasks that are assigned. Most of the work will be project based with clear goals and deadlines.

    • Maintain a list of priorities and ensure that they are being completed on time.

    • Schedule appointments.

    • Take meeting notes.

    • Research and present findings.

    • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.

    • Work independently on assigned projects and give regular updates on progress.

    • Email and phone correspondence on behalf of the owner and/or business.

    • Generally, help the owners with tasks to make the operation of the business run smoothly.

What we’re looking for:
  • Prior retail, restaurant or customer service experience is a plus but not required. For the right person, we’re more than happy to teach.

  • A successful candidate will be able to listen, interpret, and execute the owner’s requests and goals. As well as create ways to touch base with the entire team for feedback and modifications as needed.

  • A confident communicator, with a passion for organization and collaboration, and a dedication to the success of small businesses.

  • Eye for detail – you’re observant and understand that the little details make the difference: the warmth of a greeting, the table settings, or the organization of a shelf can all affect how a customer feels about the business and their experience.

  • Comfort with ambiguity while taking the initiative — you love making things happen!

  • A passion for creating connections with different kinds of people and an affinity for making folks feel right at home.

  • A self-starter mentality with an interest in learning about wine on and off the clock.

  • Collaborative spirit and commitment to Foundry Vineyards' missions – you’re a team player and willing to lend a hand or elevate those around you. You add your own individuality to an already positive and uplifting work environment. A good sense of humor doesn’t hurt either.

  • Adaptability and flexibility – you recognize that in small businesses things happen- and you’re able to calmly troubleshoot issues.

  • Have a knack for words (spelling, grammar, punctuation, proofreading) - as part of your job, communicating on behalf of the business is essential. Must be proficient on the computer (familiar with POS systems and Google Drive).

  • Reliable. Ability to be flexible with the work schedule.
